Northwold Autel – Poplar Bluff, MO

This is the first and only instance I’ve ever seen of the phony word “Autel” (“auto hotel”) from this time period, but I admire its vision, even if it didn’t take anywhere else…!

My grandparents, BK and Billie Ramsey owned the Northwold Autel from the late 50’s to about 1980. In it’s heyday it was a full service oasis, featuring the hotel, restaurant and full service auto repair and gas station. The latter feature was run by my father, James C Ramsey for a number of years.

I am looking for information on the old “Sells Motel” in Poplar Bluff. Was the owner a Gene Sells ? Where was it located, circa 1950’s.

I don’t really recall the restaurant having a specific name. We just called it “the restaurant”. I suppose it could have been called the “Northwald Restaurant” but I don’t recall that.

I found another image of a Northwold post card that shows the sign above the restaurant calling it the Northwold Restaurant. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/VINTAGE-POSTCARD-NORTHWOLD-AUTEL-AND-RESTARAUNT-POPLAR-BLUFF-MISSOURI/263130630293?hash=item3d43cec895:g:pucAAOSwRoZZiHNW
